At Penobscot River Trails we offer a variety of seasonal outdoor recreation activities. In the Fall, Spring and Summer we have 16 miles of pristine mountain biking along the East Branch of the Penobscot River. During the winter we groom our trails for 16 miles of classic XC skiing and 10 miles of skate skiing. In addition to our trail system we offer 5 miles of a packed snowshoe trail.

See What Our Visitor's Have to Say...

"Biked the trails today out the tote road and back the river trail. This place is a true gift to northern Maine. The trails are excellent, the scenery beautiful and the property is meticulous. The trails are designed to offer both family friendly bike rides or a serious workout. I do not believe this place could disappoint."
"The opportunity that this venue offers can not be missed. It is a very comfortable outdoor experience for even the novice hiker or mountain biker. The trails are improved by a natural fine crushed stone surface with bridges at all water crossing. Maps available and signage at all intersections make navigation a snap. But most of all the views will keep you wanting to see what is around the next corner. Pack a lunch and see how nature can entertain you. Great fun and a little exercise for the entire family."
"First time on this trail system built and donated free access thanks to the generousity of philanthropist Gilbert Butler. We biked over 18 miles of the incredibly built and maintained trails along the pristine East Branch of the Penobscot River. while the trails are new, they completely blend into the surrounding wilderness. well done, easy to ride, and the facilities along the trails are equally as exceptional as the trails. We will return again and again to ride especially as the seasons change. PRTs are an unequaled asset within the Northern Maine Wilderness. Thank you again, our first ride could not have been better. Thank you and what a wonderful place."
